(Anne, Sean and Saori are talking)

Anne: What do you have wrapped up in that towel, Sean?

Sean: Homemade bread that I brought to share with you guys.

Saori: I didn't know you knew how to make bread!

Sean: I don't, actually. But I had some points on my Yodobashi Camera card and decided to get a bread machine.

Saori: What kind of bread did you make?

Sean: Cinnamon raisin bread with walnuts.

Anne: Sounds delicious. Can we have it now, for breakfast?

Sean: Sure. (Takes the bread out of the towel) Ta da!

Anne: Mmm. It smells so good.

Saori: And it's still warm!

Sean: Yep. When I was prepping last night, I wavered between making a cinnamon raisin bread and a savory rosemary baguette, but decided on the former.

Anne: Give us a taste!

Sean: Fine. (Gives Anne and Saori each a slice each)

Saori: Thanks!

Anne: Mmmmm.

Sean: I know, right? I just got the machine two days ago, but this is already the fifth loaf of bread I've made. This machine is the best thing since sliced bread!

20181006_250 British food writer and chef Rachel Khoo would like for her personal recipes to be recreated in the kitchens of as many homes as possible.

The 38-year-old chef fashioned her very own cuisine rich with a mix of international flavors after traveling the globe and has gained popularity around the world with her cooking program on the BBC. Special selections from her eclectic recipes are featured in "Rachael Khoo's Kitchen Notebook," which was released in Japan on Sept. 4.

The book is based on her notebooks featuring ideas and inspirations for her cooking, from her daily life to her travels to exotic places, along with important instructions for preparing dishes. Her illustrations of ingredients further decorate the recipes inside.

While the cookbook features mainstays like fish and chips, it also contains originals like "pasta pizza" and "teriyaki salmon steamed buns," full of flavors ranging from East to West. While each dish appears to be extravagant, Khoo has worked on the recipes so they can easily be made at home. This is because she hopes to share the food she makes in her kitchen — and the joy of making it — with as many people as she can.

Khoo was raised surrounded by various food cultures. With a Malaysian father and an Austrian mother, international dishes naturally found their way onto the dinner table. One evening, Malaysian rendang curry, British shepherd's pie and Austrian schnitzel all made an appearance together at dinner. "It was like the U.N.!" she recalled of her family meals.

Her curiosity in other cultures fostered at the family dinner table continues to lead Khoo around the globe. "It's probably easier to say where I haven't been," she said with a laugh when asked how many countries she has visited.

When asked what she wants Japanese readers to get out of her cookbook, Khoo replied, "For me, cooking should be a pleasure — should be enjoyable. (I want the readers) to feel the happiness I have from cooking, from traveling and discovering other cultures."
